Om Katare, founded Yatri - a theatre group, in 1979 to provide
wholesome and meaningful entertainment to the theatre
audience.
Om Katare, who hails from small town Datia (M.P.), a
renowned theatre personality, is a Diploma holder from Filmalaya
Academy, Mumbai.
Achievements
• Om has directed almost all of
Yatri’s productions, and has now successfully completed 29
years.
He has written eight full length plays-,Man Karta Hai,
Pyar Ki Gaadi ,Rajneeti, Raat Baaki Hai (for adults),Laddoo Gopal
,Nakchadhi, Chandu Ki Chachi & Mummy Please! (for
children).
• He has conducted 20 theatre workshops for adults
and children and trained over 700 aspiring actors.
• He was
awarded the prize for Excellence in Theatre by the Maharashtra
Rajya Hindi Sahitya Academy in 2004, in honour of completing
25 years of Leadership in Hindi Theatre. The award was presented
by the then Hon’ble Minister of State – Home, for
Maharashtra, Shri Kripa Shankar Singh.
•Latest feather in the
cap is the promotion of Rajkumar Santoshi’s “Halla
Bol”.This is an innovative marketing strategy which is been
used for the first time in the history of Indian Cinema, where a
movies is been promoted through the oldest form of performing art
i.e Theatre. A 35 mins play was created based on issues that a
common man faces like Municipal Corporation,illegal
construction,hospital and health and sexual harassment. This
unique concept has been very well appreciated by media and
audience.Yatri has grown leaps and bounds and has so far produced
more than 55 productions and has over 4800+ performances to its
