About Shahidul Islam
Shahidul Islam(b ~1977) is an Indian journalist for urdu. He is the News Editor of Hindustan Express. His columns known as Barjasta appear regularly on front page of Hindustan Express. This column is syndicated to several leading newspapers of India including The Qaumi Awaz,Qaumi Tanzeem(Patna/Ranchi),Etemaaddaily(Hyderabad),Munsif (Hyderabad),Inquilab (Mumbai)etc and other Urdu newspapers of different countries.Apart from Barjasta in Hindustan Express he regularly writes for noted weekly Nai Dunya.
Biography
Shahidul Islam was born in Bihar on January 25th, 1977. He graduated with an MA in Urdu from T.M.Bhagalpur University in Bihar. His father Syed Md.Ali is a Doctor. He has relation with the Sufi-ism hero Shaikh Sultan Alaihirrahmah,who was the khalifa of Hazrat mujaddid Alifsani Rahmatullah Alaih Sarhindi from his father's side.
Career
Shahidul islam began his career in journalism in Munger(Bihar) with the Qaumi Tanzeem as a Districtt Corresspondent in 1995.During his stay in Munger he presented weekly program named Bazm-e-Urdu for Akashwani(AIR), Bhagalpur. Later he shiofted to Ranchi and worked as a the incharge of Qaumi Tanzeem (Ranchi Edition.)During his period in Ranchi he also served as the special correspondent for noted weekly Aalami Sahara. He has received several awards for his contribution in journalism including a award from Khanquah-e-shahbazia,Bhagalpur in 2004. currently he is serving as the news editor in the leading daily Hindustan Express.
Writing style
Shahidul Islam a has been noted to have socialist view point and always critcise governmentl opinions about Indian Muslims . Many of his articles criticise government policy, and generally reflect pro-minority, secular and feminist slants. He has lashed out at many influential sections of the political spectrum. he has defended Indian Muslims against the charge of being anti-national and pro-Pakistani.

At last, Urdu newspapers in India, have paid attention to the global audience and web editions are now being launched. The latest in the series is Delhi-based Hindustan Express. The paper was launched in 2006 and has achieved success in little duration after that the internet edition has also been launched. The website is www.dailyhindustanexpress.com The site is neat and refereshing. The fonts are clear and unlike Rashtriya Sahara, the Urdu script used on this website is familiar to Indian eyes (not the Arabic fonts). It is the beginning and so far the paper looks neat. Hopefully the website would be run efficiently unlike Urdu Times Mumbai where most supplements and other links are not updates. Inquilab has also the similar problem. Hindustan Express is a truly national newspaper in Urdu propagating national integration, Secularism, Social Justice, Unity and Campaigning the cause of democratic values in the society. Our main aim includes spreading the value of nationalism among the Urdu readers. The newspaper was launched on 10th May in 2006 the anniversary day of first freedom fight (1857). The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ex Prime Minister VP Singh, Minister of railway Lalu Prasad Yadav and chief minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheela Dixit. At present the circulation of the newspaper is about 60,000. Hindustan Express is a new generation Urdu newspaper creating history in the world of investigative journalism and journalism of courage and fact finding. This is the most reliable Urdu daily among minorities. Being a major force fighting against social evils & creating atmosphere for social reforms among the Muslims. Hindustan Express provide equal coverage to all sections of political philosophy and gives lead in making the mind of Urdu knowing minorities, especially the Muslims of north India.
