BANGALORE: Business schools across the globe seem to be facing a difficulty in getting high-profile deans. With high escalating salaries for a dean's job at top American B-schools, professors who get additional income from consultancy services are reluctant to take up a dean's job. However, a dean's job isn’t easy, its 24/7, tough and demanding, dealing with a host of issues every day. Nevertheless, keeping all this in mind Indian-American professors have done a commendable job at foreign universities.

Meet the Indian-American deans who have established their leadership and managerial skills in taking up high-profile jobs at esteemed institutes.

Rakesh Khurana: Rakesh Khurana is the Marvin Bower Professor of Leadership Development at Harvard Business School and also the faculty member of sociology in the field of Arts and Sciences. As a member of the Prestigious Harvard community, Khurana’s contribution is immense. He has led and worked on a number of policy-making panels, including the Committee on Academic Integrity, Campus Culture, Alcohol and Other Drug Services Campus-Community Collaborative.

Khurana was appointed to the HBS faculty board in 2000 and became co-master of Cabot in 2010. He was also a faculty at Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1998 and 2000. Prior to his graduate school, Khurana worked as a founding member of Cambridge Technology Partners. Khurana has been recognized for his immense contribution towards education, he received earning teaching excellence awards twice in 2008 and 2012 respectively. Outside his professional life, Khurana has co-authored ‘Handbook for Leadership Theory and Practice’ and ‘The Handbook for Teaching Leadership’- a seminal texts on leadership theory and pedagogical practice.
