Indian Americans Top in Income and Education

Bangalore: A recent study by the Pew Research Centre on "The Rise of Asian Americans" reveals that Indian Americans are richer and better educated when compared to the other ethnic groups in the U.S. They are also the third largest among Asian Americans, with a population of 3.18 million, following Chinese and Filipino origin Americans.

The study also finds out that Asians as a whole earn more than the general U.S. population and in terms of education level also they are far ahead.

Seven out of 10 Indian Americans (70 percent) have at least a bachelor’s degree, which is higher than the Asian-American share, which is 49 percent. Whereas the national share, having the minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree is just 28 percent.

According to the report, Indian-American's household income is USD 88,000 in a year as against USD 66,000 of Asian Americans and USD 49,800 of an average American household.

Nearly 57 percent of Indian Americans have their own home and nearly 65 percent of the overall population in U.S. owns a house.

9 percent out of the total Indian Americans lead a poor life; 12 percent in the case of Asian Americans and 13 in the case of US population.

Apart from leading in areas of education and financial status, Indian Americans give more importance to their family; 78 percent of them believe in being a good parent as the most important thing in their life.
