Bangalore: "You have worked in virtually every part of the United States, in urban areas, inner cities, rural areas, in peripheral areas and going beyond your professional work, you have also made contributions through volunteerism, through relief work, through free clinics and through charity," these are the words said to physicians of Indian origin in America by Arun Kumar Singh, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Washington.

Let us have a look at some of the prominent Indian doctors in America-

Sudhir M Parikh

Parikh is an allergy specialist (center for Asthma and Allergy, New Jersey), philanthropist and publisher who was honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri Award in the year 2010.

Parikh is recognized all over the world for his charity work, which includes donation of more than $2 million to various charities in India and U.S. and the establishment of Parikh foundation. He accompanied Former President Bill Clinton on his visit to Gujarat’s earthquake affected areas and has also extended helping hand to the victims of Tsunami in Tamil Nadu.

Parikh is actively involved in fund raising for AIDS awareness and programmes related to health care in India and he also provides financial assistance to the Share & Care Foundation, Nargis Dutt Memorial Foundation, and the American India Foundation.
