3 Indian Americans Among White House Fellowship Finalists

Bangalore: Three Indian Americans have emerged as finalists for White House Fellowship programme by the President’s Commission. Jay Bhatt from University of Michigan, Kapil Parakh from Johns Hopkins and Shilpen Patel from the University of Washington are the Indians who made it the final round of selection, along with 27 other individuals.

The names of 11-19 people from the 30 finalists will be recommended to President Obama and they will be appointed as White House Fellows for 1 year. They will get the opportunity to be a part of leadership and service program, which is one of the prestigious programs in the nation.

Dr. Jay Bhatt is a Geriatrics Fellow at the University of Michigan Health System. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Chicago, medical degree from PCOM, masters in public health from the University of Illinois and he also received his Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Kapil Parakh is the assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Heart Failure Programs at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He completed his education from the University Of Zambia School Of Medicine in Lusaka.

Dr. Patel, a radiation oncologist at UW Medical Center specializes in the treatment of thoracic cancer. He did his medical education from the University of Texas.

Patel is part of numerous organizations that aim to improve healthcare.
