These Countries Are Enemies of Internet

7. North Korea: The government in this country launched its own pages on social networks for propaganda, according to the report, which focus mainly on anti-south Korean themes. Other than this, citizens are kept isolated from the rest of the world, since there is no broadband data network available in the country.  Government officials access the internet via a link to China, but as of 2009, most North Koreans had never even heard of the internet according to a survey. The Facebook page of the government is currently a dead link, while its YouTube and Twitter accounts are exclusively in Korean.

8. Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has a stringent and very detailed procedure to censor websites that contain “offensive content”, ranging from pornography to anything offensive to the government and its system, to even religious content that infringes on the sanctity of Islam, as reported by an Arab website.  Companies are not allowed to advertise or allow purchase of “medicines or foodstuff carrying any medicinal claims, or cosmetics, except those registered and approved by the Ministry of Health”. All international Internet traffic in the country is directed through a proxy farm located in King Abdulaziz City for Science & Technology, where content filtering is carried out.
