Nokia Slips Again; Reaches 10th Position In Smartphone Market

Bangalore: Finnish handset maker Nokia has reportedly slipped to 10th position in the Smartphone market. The company had a major setback in its sales even though Nokia's flagship Lumia series had a good response from consumers, reports TOI.

Earlier, Nokia experienced its peak in the mobile market. But over the years the company is struggling to compete with the new players. In the fourth quarter of 2012, it ranked 8th position in the global Smartphone market. However, it managed to sell only 39.3 million phones which is 53 percent less, as compared to its preceding year.

As per reports from the research firm Gartner, Nokia has lost 5 percentage points of market share and sold 5.1 million Lumia Smartphones in the first quarter of 2013.

However, Nokia claimed to have sold 5.6 million units of Lumia phones during the first quarter of the year, which is an increase of 25 percent as compared to its previous quarter. It also claimed to have shipped a total of 6.1 million smart devices, which also includes Asha series of Smartphones.  The company also predicted its Lumia sales would be up 27percent at the end of the ongoing quarter.

On the other side Nokia's rival Samsung and Apple are dominating the global Smartphone race with the South Korean tech giant remaining as No.1 in the Smartphone market.
