#10 Microsoft’s Betrayal Of IBM

In 1985, Microsoft promised IBM to develop GUI (graphical user interface) for their computers. But little did the computing giant IBM knew that Microsoft was developing GUI for its own OS rather than for IBM’s OS/2. The result? Windows based PC sales roared and IBM’s was tanked.   

Ultimately and inevitably, IBM, in 1991, has to severe its partnership with Microsoft. But by the time there were 13 million compiles of Windows 3.0 where in open, versus 600,000 of IBM’s OS/2. The IBM partners like Lotus and WordPerfect, incurred losses by trying to cash on by developing for OS/2. And then by the time when Lotus and Wordperfect actually came out with their products, Microsoft had OS monopoly which later resulted in cornering the productivity of software market as well.
