Google Blames Survey Of India For Probe Over 'Mapathon'

Bangalore: Google blamed Survey of India for the fiasco as Delhi Police investigated the search giant for violating country’s mapping rules in the company’s Mapathon contest. The contest abided with the laws of the country and that Survey of India was wrong in claiming that Google didn’t abide by the rules, as reported by Times of India.

Earlier, the Survey of India had reportedly asked Google to stop the contest.  Google refused to specify whether the letter received on March 22 asked it to stop the contest or raised certain queries. R C Padhi, Additional surveyor General of India said that the agency wrote a letter to the company stating to stop the contest. He said, "The company did not revert. We then asked our regional office at R K Puram to lodge a police complaint.''

According to a Google spokesperson, "The Survey of India contacted Google regarding the Mapathon contest on March 22, and, as requested by them, we responded to them on March 25 and offered to meet them to discuss their concerns.”
