Bangalore: After the launch of Microsoft’s most ambitious operating system, Windows 8, Steven Sinofsky says that ‘Windows 8 PCs deliver better value than Apple.’

Sinofsky, President of Windows and Windows Live division has said that the PC-maker has found a way to give its customers modern computing at a price that is far lesser than its competitor.

The Windows 8 powered laptops are priced at $279. Excited about the low-pricing of its ‘revolutionary operating system’ Sinofsky said, “These are fantastic machines. At that price, you can get a computer good enough to last a student through college."

A lot is on stake for Microsoft with Windows 8 as the operating system is supposedly aimed at changing the way we have been using computers, offering a single platform to run on laptops, PCs as well as tablets. The new version of the Windows is powered with a built-in software store much like its rival Apple.

Sinofsky also mentioned that there are several other touch-screen ultra-books available in the market and are way cheaper than Apple’s Mac, adding it is “engineering work that drives the cost down.”

On the other hand, Apple’s CEO Tim Cooks is taking his own digs at Microsoft said that Surface compromises on a lot of factors in an attempt to function as a PC and a tablet. He also mentioned that “You could design a car that flies and floats but I don’t think it would do either of those things very well.”
