Bangalore: Qualcomm plans to optimize its existing 3G network in Delhi and Mumbai. For this initiative, Qualcomm's Engineering Services Group (ESG) will be working with state owned telecom operator MTNL. "As enablers of 3G technology and solutions, we are proud to collaborate with MTNL for the auditing of their 3G networks," said Kanwalinder Singh, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm and President, Qualcomm India and South Asia. ESG will engage with MTNL to assess and recommend modifications in their UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System) network design and dimensioning pursuant to performance audit services. MTNL wants to enhance its overall network performance, increase network capacity and help deliver superior service quality to the end consumer. Paul Jacobs, Chairman and CEO of Qualcomm has said that 3G will be a huge success in India. "3G has been a success worldwide. It is expected to be a success in India also, as people are going to use more data. The 3G auction will lead to further CDMA growth. We expect 200 million subscribers of the projected 400 million subscribers to join the Indian networks over the next three-four years to be on 3G CDMA technology," said Jacobs.
