Mark Zuckerberg, Is America's Second Biggest Charitable Donor

Bangalore: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg along with his wife Priscilla Chan ranked the second biggest charitable donors last year in United States. Billionaire Warren buffet headed the list of the nation’s most generous philanthropists, followed by Zuckerberg, who donated almost $500 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

Warren Buffet, who topped the list, donated $3.1 billion to the foundations of his three children. John and Laura Arnold, was third, donating about $423.4 million to their foundation and other groups. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen was fourth contributing $309 million majorly to the Allen Institute for Brain Science followed by Sergey Brin of Google and Anne Wojcicki, who was ranked fifth donating $223 million to Michael J. Fox foundation as well as their own philanthropy.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation issues grants for umpteen charitable causes especially in San Francisco. In 2012, the causes ranged from teaching immigrants English to providing food and shelter for victims of the California wildfires.

Zuckerberg, whose net worth, is probably around $13 billion made his first entry into philanthropic space in 2010, assuring $100 million to public schools in New Jersey.
