Linkedin Celebrates 10 Years Of Professional Networking

Bangalore: Linkedin, a professional social networking site celebrated its 10th birthday on 5th May, 2013. It was back in 2003 when the network took its humble roots among famed ones like Friendster.

Reid Hoffman who started the network in his living room had a mission to connect the world’s professionals to make them productive and successful. This happened by recruiting a few friends for PayPal and SocialNet in 2012 and within six months Linkedin was launched with ‘Relationships matter’ as its tagline.

Last July, thesite was found to spill about 6.5 million not-well encrypted logins to a Russian hacking site. After that the social network’s privacy policy had included this message.

“Since the internet is not a 100 percent secure environment, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to Linkedin. There is no guarantee that information may not be accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards. It is your responsibility to protect the security of your login information.”

But now Linkedin has around 225 million people holding their accounts which made the network pool in a revenue $325 million in the last quarter. It has employed over 3700 folks and is growing rapidly with two members per second.
