Bangalore: 40 years ago, on this day, Intel launched what could be said as the world's first commercially available microprocessor, Intel 4004, in Santa Clara, Calif. This processor redefined computing era and started the digital revolution. Let’s have a look at some of the little known fascinating facts about the tech giant on the 40th anniversary of its microprocessor innovation.

1. Intel is Cool

Intel was founded in 1968 by two ex Fairchild Semiconductor employees, Gordon E. Moore and Robert N. Noyce. They initially thought about the name ‘Moore Noyce Electronics’, which sounded like ‘more Noise’, so it was dropped. They started with ‘N M electronics’. Later they considered ‘Integrated Electronics’, which was already taken, so they took the first syllables of both words and thus ‘Intel’ was named which they thought was cool. They purchased the trademark from Intelco hotel chain for just $15,000. Intel’s first year’s revenue was $ 2,672.
