Asia, The Luring Future Of Mobile Internet

Bangalore: As the Smartphone market is getting saturated in the developed countries in America and Europe, the $2 trillion industry of telecom carriers, handset makers and content providers, are now taking a big leap at emerging markets in Asia, reports Reuters.

While carrier subsidies on high-end devices have helped to shoot up the sales in the mature markets, the next big growth for Smartphone market will be due to cost-conscious users who demand cheaper gadgets and cheaper data plans, a trend which is popular in Asia.

The year 2013 will mark history as the internet users in the developing countries are to exceed those of the developed countries for the first time. And there's plenty of room to grow: fewer than 23 in 100 in Asia are mobile Internet users, versus 67 in Europe and 48 in the Americas. The growth rate in such countries is at 27 times since 2007, compared to the developed world's fourfold growth, according to estimates from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
