Java is a set of several computer software products and specifications from Sun Microsystems, which has since merged with Oracle Corporation, that together provide a system for developing application software and deploying it in a cross-platform computing environment. Java is used in a wide variety of computing platforms from embedded devices and mobile phones on the low end, to enterprise servers and supercomputers on the high end. It can't possibly hurt that Google uses Java as the basis for Android application development, a sector that isn't likely to slowdown anytime soon.

SQL is a special-purpose programming language designed for managing data held in a relational database management system (RDBMS). Originally based upon relational algebra and tuple relational calculus, SQL consists of a data definition language and a data manipulation language. Though NoSQL databases might be getting all the attention as of lately, the more traditional, structured databases are still going strong. There are currently more than 98,000 SQL jobs indexed by Indeed.com.
