Sun Yafang led Huawei to gain $1.8 billion in net profits in 2011. Her leadership is in talks all over the world. The International Telecommunication Union awarded Sun with the World Telecommunication and Information Society Award in May of 2012. She has been the chairwoman of Huawei since 1999, helping in the transformation of the company from a local business to a global networking and telecommunications provider. Before holding the chair, Sun held a wide variety of executive titles at Huawei, including human resources and R&D. She joined in 1989 soon after the company's founding. Sun dedicates herself to create social good from the networked world, as Huawei works with the Broadband Commission for Digital Development to accelerate progress to the UN's Millennium Development Goals and boost local economies by bringing broadband to communities around the world.
