According to the annual report of the company, food delivery aggregator Zomato, which began charging platform fees on orders in August and collected 83 crore through the new levy until March, One of the three main drivers of Zomato’s consolidated Revenue, which increased 27% year-over-year to 7,792 crore in FY24, has been cited as the platform fee.
It added that the free delivery benefit offered to Gold orders more than made up for the reduction in customer delivery charges per order. According to Zomato’s report, the most late-night and most breakfast orders were placed in Bengaluru during the most recent fiscal year.
In August of last year, the food delivery aggregator began charging a platform fee of 2 per order, which has since been gradually increased to 6 in key markets. Swiggy, its main rival, also charges a platform fee for orders. Food delivery aggregators see the introduction of and increase in platform fees as one way to boost profitability.
Regarding this, the official statement from the company stated, “The adjusted Revenue as a percentage of GOV (gross order value), continued to increase primarily due to increase in restaurant commission take-rates, improvement in ad monetization and introduction of platform fee from Q2FY24 onwards.
Recently, Deepinder Goyal led food delivery giant Zomato has introduced 'District,' a new app designed to consolidate its "going-out" business. The application will feature a range of services, including dining options, ticket purchasing for films and events, sports ticketing, live entertainment, shopping, and staycation arrangements. This initiative is a component of Zomato's strategy to diversify its offerings beyond its primary food delivery services, as indicated by CEO Deepinder Goyal in a communication to shareholders.
