Whale Tank (WT) Biocatalysts hosted its third Startup-Investor Meet, WT 3.0, at the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad, creating a high-impact platform for Deeptech innovation. The event was organised in partnership with BIRAC under the Government of India’s BioE3 mission, highlighting national support for science-led entrepreneurship.
WT 3.0 aimed to accelerate funding for startups in Healthcare, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Food, and Agritech. The platform builds on the strong foundation of WT 1.0 and WT 2.0, which together helped over 100 startups secure investments from 50+ investors in the past two years. This year, multiple WT-incubated startups moved closer to major commercial breakthroughs, with two projects advancing toward USD 500 million in funding.
During the inaugural address, Dr. Uday Saxena, Co-Founder of Whale Tank, called WT a 'transformational platform' that converts deep science into market-ready solutions. Prof. Reddanna, Executive President of FABA, briefed founders on the biotechnology startup landscape and the key factors that influence long-term success.
The biggest highlight of WT 3.0 was the official launch of NexaSweet, Whale Tank’s new stem cell attractant-based sweetener. Designed to support gut repair and reduce inflammation, NexaSweet is among the first BIRAC-backed innovations approaching commercialization.
Dr. Markandeya Gorantla, Founder of Whale Tank, said the event showcased the power of India’s Deeptech ecosystem, with over 73 startups shortlisted and 20 selected for the main pitch session. Another 50 startups received opportunities for networking and elevator pitches with investors.
Key investors, CEOs, pharma leaders, venture capital firms, and DBS Bank attended the event, strengthening industry-startup collaboration. Startups presented high-TRL innovations, many already in post-POC or commercial stages.
