Swiggy Instamart Taps Growing Demand with 100-City Expansion

Instant grocery delivery platform Swiggy Instamart has reached 100 cities in India, parent company and Online food delivery firm Swiggy announced in an exchange filing on March 17, attributing rising demand from Tier II and Tier III cities.
The firm said the growth is on the heels of increasing demand for 10-minute deliveries, particularly in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
Swiggy Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha said the expansion will also support dark store network and delivery partners.
"In 2025, one in four new users came from tier 2 or 3 cities, underscoring the growing demand for quick commerce. With this growth, we’re excited to bring the same level of convenience, choice, and value to a much wider base of customers", Jha said.
"With this expansion, millions of new customers now have access to more than 30,000 products, ranging from grocery and everyday essentials to electronics, smartphones, fashion, makeup, toys, and moreall in 10 minutes", Swiggy's statement further read.
Swiggy Instamart revealed that it will be increasing the darkstore network of the platform by launching 'Megapods' before the next cricket season. The megapods, which are of sizes ranging between 10,000-12,000 square feet, are capable of carrying 50,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs) and provide the consumers with a three times increased range of the products available across the existing dark stores.
Sharing Tier II and Tier III city trends, Swiggy reported its largest single-day customer spend in Thiruvananthapuram, where a customer spent Rs 69,993 on one order. The largest total amount spent by one user was Rs 3.34 lakh, made by an unidentified customer in Dehradun.
The best-selling segments in these cities are fruits and vegetables, snacks, fairy, bread, eggs, and others. The most ordered products were onions, followed by tomatoes and coriander in towns.
Patna was the city that became the quickest to cross over 1,000 orders a day, reaching the mark just four days after the launch of Swiggy Instamart in the city. Raipur was the first city to cross over 300 orders on its launch day. "Hubli saw the highest order value on its launch day with a single order of wireless earphones worth Rs 8,980", Swiggy further added.
Swiggy Instamart CEO Amitesh Jha added in the past year, the company has observed considerable momentum for convenience-driven retail, well beyond Indian metros. "Our scaling to 100 cities fortifies our coverage and enables us to serve intensifying consumer demands in underserved geographies", Swiggy CEO stated, further adding consumer behavior and value-proposition of quick-commerce have transformed.
Swiggy shares remained flat at Rs 355.60 per share on March 17. The stock is near its 52-week low of Rs 317 per share and is much lower than its 52-week high of Rs 617 per share.
