Power from rice waste
Bihar is one of the states in India that has highest cultivation of rice. It is the main source of income for the state but also has a problem stuck to it; the rice husks stand as a problem because 1.8 billion kilograms of rice husks go to the landfill every year, it produces methane, a gas that warms the globe.
Husk Power Systems saw its business opportunity here and developed gasifiers to convert rice husks into electricity. Fifty kilograms of husks per hour can provide decent amount of power to 500 people. The company has still has its first project under development but it has identified 25,000 sites that can use its power plants for energy conversion.
