Suffusing $8-12 billion funding to suffice the standards of Indian Startup Ecosystem

According to the report of top official of venture capital firm Peak XV, Indian startups are expected to raise $8-12 billion this year, and it also added that, India’s startup industry is regarded as the most vibrant in the world.

Coomenting on the event of Startup Mahakumbh, Managing Director of Peak XVRajan Anandan said that, nearly $20 billion of private capital is remained uninvested and is committed for investment in private firms and startups in India.

Anandan also highlighted that the investment run rate in Indian startups before 2021 and 2022, was about $ 8-10 billion, currently which has been increased to $ 60 billion in 2021 and 2022.

He further opined, "Last year, it was $7 billion, which people said is low. It could have been zero because basically six years of funding came in two years.This year we are well on track to USD 8-10 or 12 billion. We are going to have an ecosystem which is going to have USD 10-12 billion for few years and it will go at natural pace that it should."

He explained that, nearly 10 billion or about 80,000 crore funding per year is enough to build the Indian startup ecosystem. The Focus of the funding has been shifted to next gen technology like Gen AI generated software companies. He also informed that, last year his investment firm made investment of in consumer businesses which are no longer getting funded in the US.

He said, "India today has 20 startups that are being publicly traded. We think that over the next 7-8 years, there will be 100 startups that will go public." He is also hopeful that, Funding Winter is soon be vanished and the upcoming years more significant growth will be noticed in startup landscape of India.
