Typof Commerce, a Bengaluru-based eCommerce platform that is committed to enabling upstart Indian brands, has introduced SMEPay India's first UPI payment gateway built specifically for small to medium sized businesses that charges zero commission. Launched on Julyâ¯4, 2025, this fintech disruptor outshines high-fee legacy payment gateways by providing a flat, visible transaction fee of only Rs 3, eliminating per order commission entirely.
The idea behind SMEPay came right out of Typof's seller base, which was losing almost 2â¯percent on every order. They were also struggling with inefficient payment systems. The Typof team knew that roughly 85â¯percent of its merchants were opting for UPI rather than other forms of payment. So, they created a solution specifically for their merchants. Developed first for in-house use, SMEPay soon developed into a full-fledged national platform with a mission to revolutionize digital payment infrastructure for thousands of SMEs across the country.
The evolution of SMEPay was born out of the founder's own entrepreneurial experience. He started coding during the day and doing customer support at night from his modest background as a kitchen hand and receptionist at his dad's restaurant. This real-world experience informed SMEPay's merchant-centric approach and uncluttered, jargon-free user interface.
More than 30,000 transactions with a value of over Rs 90â¯lakh have been processed by SMEPay since its launch in May, and it is now utilized by over 100 Typof clients. The effects have been dramatic cash-on-delivery orders are down on average by 35â¯percent for early adopters, while each has saved lakhs of rupees annually.
SMEPay offers dynamic UPI links, customizable QR codes, instant settlement, and simple branding integration without the need for a dedicated website or developer assistance. Its services intend to simplify payment processing among freelancers, home-based business operators, and small businesses and enable them to receive payments through WhatsApp, SMS, or social media.
Typof's founders stress that SMEPay was developed with sincere feedback from merchants, leveraging internal engineering talent and real-world experimentation, as opposed to external funding rounds. By presenting a straightforward, low-price UPI alternative, Typof is reducing financial impediments and allowing SMEs to hold on to more of their revenues, consistent with India's continuing adoption of UPI-based trade.
With its merchant-focused architecture and grassroots origin, SMEPay is poised to revolutionize the face of digital payments for India's SMEs to make payments cheaper, easier, and more inclusive.
