SIDBI Honored by TiE Mumbai for Shaping India's Venture Capital Ecosystem
The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Mumbai has honored the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for its valuable contribution to the venture capital and startup ecosystem in India. The award was given at TiEcon Mumbai 2025, the nation's leading entrepreneurial leadership conference.
The award, which honored SIDBI for its efforts in promoting innovation and enabling startups, was awarded to Shri Manoj Mittal, CMD, SIDBI. Shri S.P. Singh, CGM, SIDBI, received the award on behalf of the organization from Infosys co-founder Shri Narayana Murthy.
Since its establishment in 1990, SIDBI has been a key driver in the development of India's VC ecosystem. During the early 1990s, when the ecosystem was forming, SIDBI set up a separate venture capital division to support startups across the country. It set up its own asset management company in 1999, which introduced sector-specific funds for the first time, such as one of India's earliest IT-sector VC funds.
Over the years, SIDBI has introduced funds for manufacturing, social ventures, and exports, consistently diversifying India’s funding landscape. By combining direct funding with ecosystem-building initiatives, SIDBI has been a driving force behind countless innovation-led enterprises.
The recognition by TiE Mumbai highlights SIDBI’s relentless efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem, reaffirming its status as a key enabler of India’s startup success story.
