Piyush Goyal Unveils Rs 3 Lakh Crore Boost for R&D, Jobs, and Startups

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal highlighted a series of transformative policy initiatives during an interactive session with industry leaders in Bengaluru, aimed at accelerating 
research, innovation, employment generation, and strengthening India’s startup ecosystem.
Addressing the gathering, Goyal spoke about the Union Cabinet’s recent approval of schemes worth over Rs 3 lakh crore, marking a substantial commitment towards fostering a robust entrepreneurial and industrial landscape in the country. “Under the leadership of PM Modi, our Ministry approved a scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh crore to promote research and development (R&D) and innovation. We have also come out with a Rs 2 lakh crore employment generation incentive scheme, along with multiple initiatives for skill development and internship programs”, he announced.
“These initiatives will support the growth of startups, technology, and manufacturing in India”, Goyal added, positioning them as key drivers for India's economic acceleration.
Lauding Bengaluru’s dynamic tech ecosystem, Goyal called the city’s deep tech industry and global capability centres a 'jewel in the crown' of India’s economic landscape. He praised the innovative spirit and global contributions of Bengaluru’s entrepreneurs and tech talent.
On national security, Goyal acknowledged audience appreciation for Operation Sindoor, India’s response to a recent terrorist attack. He described the incident as a direct attack on India’s economic progress, integrity, and sovereignty. “I was pleased to hear recognition for the government’s fitting response under Operation Sindoor”, he said.
The session underscored the government's strategic focus on building a future-ready India driven by technology, innovation, and resilient infrastructure, while ensuring national security and inclusive economic development.
