Hyderabad Drivers Launch Yaary Ride-Hailing App via ONDC
The Hyderabad Auto and Taxi Drivers Association announced the introduction of Yaary, an ONDC-based app for ride-hailing that poses a challenge to established industry leaders such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido. With an initial enlistment of more than 20,000 auto and taxi drivers in Hyderabad, Yaary intends to broaden its presence by forming partnerships with driver associations in various cities. Hari Prasadh, CEO & Co-Founder of Yaary, emphasized the app's focus on drivers, highlighting its commitment to fair pay and support for those driving the ride-hailing industry. Prasadh stated, "Yaary is created by and for drivers, firmly believing in respecting, supporting, and ensuring fair compensation for the drivers who fuel the ride-hailing ecosystem".
Yaary, supported by ONDC and akin to Bengaluru's Namma Yatri, vows not to levy any commission on drivers utilizing its platform. Founded by Hari Prasadh, Madhan Balasubramanian, and Paritosh Verma, Yaary follows ONDC's network standards and utilizes the open-source BECKN protocol. Koshy T, MD & CEO of ONDC, praised the nationwide expansion of this initiative, highlighting Yaary's commitment to affordability and benefits for both service providers and customers in Hyderabad.
To join Yaary, auto or taxi drivers can download the Yaary Partner app for KYC verification. Customers can access Yaary Ride on their Android and iOS devices through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The launch of Yaary coincides with news of the separation between Namma Yatri and the Auto Drivers Union in Bengaluru, drawing attention to zero-commission models. Yaary aligns with this commitment by guaranteeing no commissions for drivers and facilitating direct transactions between peers. While the platform incurs a nominal SaaS fee, significantly lower than conventional aggregators, it aims to foster fair and transparent earnings for drivers.
