In a landmark move to boost innovation and global market access for Maharashtra’s AI startups, the state government has announced a strategic partnership with Google. The initiative was unveiled by Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha following high-level discussions with Google’s venture capital leadership.
The collaboration includes the launch of India’s first dedicated Google AI training centre for startups in Maharashtra, designed to provide incubation, mentorship, and global networking opportunities. Startups will be selected through a competitive process, enabling the most promising ventures to scale internationally.
“This centre will unlock worldwide prospects for our young entrepreneurs”, said Minister Lodha, confirming that a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is in progress. He was joined at the announcement by Dr. Apurva Chamaria, Head of Google’s Venture Capital and Startup Partnerships, along with Skill Development Commissioner Lahuraj Mali and Chief Minister’s special duty officer Kaustubh Dhavse.
As part of the broader collaboration, Google will also roll out cutting-edge AI and technology courses for Industrial Training Institute (ITI) students across the state. This move mirrors Google’s similar training initiatives in nine other countries and aligns with Maharashtra’s mission to position itself as a global innovation hub.
“We're creating pathways for local talent to compete globally”, Lodha stated, highlighting Google’s crucial role in accelerating this vision.
