Coratia Wins Rs 66 Crore Navy Deal for Underwater Robots
  • Coratia signs Rs 66 crore deal with Indian Navy for underwater robots.
  • Jalasimha robot enters naval use after clearing top tier tests.
  • AI powered tech supports defence and civil needs, cuts foreign reliance.
Odisha based deep tech startup Coratia Technologies has signed a Rs 66 crore contract with the Indian Navy to supply and maintain its indigenously developed underwater robots. This marks the first large scale deployment of homegrown Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs) into active naval operations, a major milestone for both Coratia and India’s defence tech ecosystem.
Coratia’s flagship UWROV, Jalasimha, successfully cleared extensive trials and was certified at Technology Readiness Level-9 (TRL-9), a global benchmark used by NASA. This enables its immediate use in real world naval operations. Alongside Jalasimha, the startup has also developed  Jaladuta and an Autonomous Surface Vehicle Navya. All systems are equipped with sonar based mapping, real time analytics, and AI/ML capabilities, making them powerful tools for both defence and civilian use.
Founded by Debendra Pradhan and Biswajit Swain, Coratia was incubated at NIT Rourkela’s FTBI and STPI Bhubaneswar’s Electropreneur Park, and supported by Startup Odisha and i-Hub Gujarat. The startup’s innovations are designed to be both high tech and cost-effective, with applications ranging from naval missions to dam inspections, offshore energy asset monitoring, and disaster response.
"This recognition by the Navy proves India can build world class underwater systems that meet global standards", said Debendra Pradhan, CEO of Coratia. CTO Biswajit Swain added, “Our robots cut costs and reduce dependency on foreign imports, supporting India’s goal of technological self-reliance”.
Recently, Coratia raised Rs 17.4 crore in a Pre-Series A round led by MGF Kavachh and Pontaq Ventures. The startup aims to scale R&D, expand exports, and meet growing global demand for underwater robotics.
With this landmark deal, Coratia is not just building underwater robots it’s shaping India’s future in defence innovation.
