NASSCOM Receives 4000 Startup Applications, Bangalore Tops The List


Bangalore: The recently launched 10,000 Startups program by, The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) announced the receipt of 4,000 applications for Angel Funding and Acceleration.  NASSCOM had started inviting applications for the 10,000 Startups program on April 5th 2013 and closed the process on 30th May 2013, reports ZDNet.

Nasscom will take up initiative to mentor 150 companies through its partners and members which includes, Google, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Microsoft and Verisign.

According to Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM, “We have close to 14,000 entrepreneurs from over 80 cities registering with the program who submitted about 4,000 applications. We will now select about 20-25 startups for Angel Funding and Incubation.” He further added, “Through a comprehensive evaluation process carried out by our partners, we will also select about 150 startups which would undergo rigorous mentoring by our members, program partners and other industry partners.”

The application procedure provided some interesting insights from the emerging tech entrepreneurship landscape in India.  Out of one in four startups, that is about 25percent of the startups are aiming to solve problems in education and skill development. Out of total applications received, Bangalore leads the charts with close to 23 percent applicants; it is closely followed by 20percent applicants from Delhi NCR.
