Indian Techies Sell Their Firm To Apple


Bangalore: Topsy Labs, a social search and analytics firm was acquired by the electronics pioneer, Apple for a whopping $200 million. The company founded by two Indian techies Vipul Ved Prakash and Rishab Aiyer Ghosh in May 2008 provides instant answers to critical business questions by analyzing public conversations on real-time basis reports rediff.

Topsy is headquartered in San Francisco and has another office in Washington DC with a work force of 40 employees. Prakash initially founded Vipul’s Razor an anti-spam system and later in 2001 he co-founded another company, Cloudmark, which provides protection against spam, viruses, phishing and other computer threats using the collaborative filtration technology of Vipul's Razor.

Prakash and Ghosh’s survey on open software, Orbiten Free Software Survey, is regarded as their first successful endeavor at making a model for open-source projects.
