FlipClass Brings Tuition Classes to Your Mobile

BENGALURU: Remember the last time you were struggling to find a Subject Matter Expert (SME) tutor for your child appearing in board exams (or preparing for competitive exams)? Moreover, remember the fees proposed by your local SME? The incident might have given you a few more grey hairs (or did it shed the remaining ones?) While we are living in times where there is a website (and an app) for everything, wouldn’t it be great to have an online platform that provides access to SME tutors? Tutors that can take home classes or help students online with their expertise!

With such a vision, Vineet Dwivedi, an IIT-Kanpur and IIM-Bangalore alumni, founded FlipClass. The online marketplace is a platform for people with a passion for teaching. Parents can register to the website and search for tutors for K-12 students and students preparing for various entrance and competitive exams. The platform significantly increases the visibility of qualified affordable tutors to parents.

FlipClass’ recent launch of FlipTutor app, aids parents and tutors with real time communication. It gives an advantage of having student’s queries answered right away. With Whatsapp like interface, the app is easy to use and comes real handy in tier 2 and tier 3 cities that lack easy access to SMEs.  At present, FlipClass is a 40 member team that works across Bengaluru, Delhi, and Hyderabad with head office situated in Bengaluru. It is helping nearly 4200 students with its base of 11,000 expert tutors.

Vineet has his own story to share that describes instituting FlipClass. His son, a 5th Standard student that time, needed help with mathematics and Vineet was not able to locate an expert tutor nearby. “No one could refer me to a tutor who was not just well versed with the subject but also excelled in communication. Even if someone would claim to possess both the qualities, they were either beyond my affordability or they proved me totally wrong when they started tutoring,” Dwivedi tells firstpost.com. As the proverb goes, Necessity is the mother of invention; this led to the idea of creating an online platform that facilitates both tutors and the students.

Recently, FlipClass raised $1Mn in funding from Blume Ventures and S Chand & Co. With more than 40,000 downloads of FlipTutor app, and millions in funding, it is perceivable that e-learning is now shifting to mobile learning. A less crowded space today still has enough competitors to fight through. In this scenario, FlipClass expects to get more than 30,000 tutors onboard and 20,000 student enrolment by the end of 2016.
