Facebook's First Outside Investor Peter Thiel to Invest in Airbnb

Bangalore: Peter Thiel, the PayPal co-founder and Facebook’s first outside investor, is all set to invest around $150 million into Airbnb that would value the online rental and lodging startup at about $2.5 billion, reports venturebeat.com.

According to the Journal, Thiel's Founders Fund and current Airbnb investors Andreessen Horowiz and Sequoia Capital are all ready to meet with a deal that would make Airbnb one of the most valued private companies throughout Silicon Valley.

Till date, the community-powered firm has raised over $120 million, with its last funding from venture firms such as Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst Partners, boosting the startup value to more than $1 billion. At present, the company is recovering from a disastrous spree over a lodging place in San Francisco.

Thiel was one of the earliest investors in Facebook and is considered one of Silicon Valley's most incisive VCs. The billionaire cashed in a massive $395.8 million recently to stiff up his remaining holdings in Facebook.
