Initiated by four college students, Diaspora launched a Kick starter campaign to create a more open social network that lets users own their data. The founding members had a great idea and time as this entire concept was initiated when Facebook was tampered with privacy issues from its users.

The founders had to implement their idea which would cost them a great deal. The codes for Diaspora were released but it was criticized a lot for its security flaws.

The startups had to go through various hurdles, in the year 2011 it announced that one of its founders had committed suicide which did not stop the team from accomplishing their dreams.

Hashable

Hashable started its operation in 2010 by raising a massive $4 million for its vision of reducing the usage of business cards. The app helps the user’s network by picking up contacts from their phones and keeping a watch on the contacts through various hashtags. Unfortunately the company shut its operations in July 2012. Its founder Michael Yavonditte announced that the team is now focused on building an ad platform that helps businesses monetize their mobile traffic.
