Reigning world champion and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra has secured his spot in the men’s javelin throw event at the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, Switzerland, as per the latest standings released after the Silesia leg on Saturday.
Despite skipping the Silesia meet, Chopra sealed qualification with 15 points from two Diamond League appearances this season. The men’s javelin final is scheduled for August 28, 2025, where the Diamond League champion will be decided.
The 27-year-old Indian star has enjoyed an impressive season. He clinched victory at the Paris leg with a throw of 88.16m and had earlier produced a national record-breaking 90.23m effort in Doha, finishing behind Germany’s Julian Weber. Both Chopra and Weber are tied on 15 points in second place on the overall standings, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott leads with 17 points from three events.
Walcott, the London 2012 Olympic champion, finished second in Silesia with a throw of 82.54m. Two-time world champion Anderson Peters and Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio Da Silva are also in contention for Zurich qualification.
Chopra, who lifted the Diamond League title in 2022 and secured back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024, will be aiming to reclaim the crown this year. However, he has yet to officially confirm his participation in Zurich.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist, has not featured in any Diamond League events this season.
