India’s star javelin thrower and two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra continued his dominant form by winning the javelin throw title at the Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 meet on Tuesday with a best effort of 85.29 metres.
Competing in the one-day event in the Czech Republic, Neeraj sealed the win with his third attempt, which proved to be unbeatable across all six rounds. The 27-year-old from Haryana outperformed South Africa’s Douw Smit, who finished second with 84.12m, and Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who took third with 83.63m.
Neeraj began the event with a foul throw, but quickly recovered with a solid 83.45m in his second attempt. It was in the third round that he delivered his winning throw of 85.29m. While he couldn’t surpass that mark in the remaining three attempts registering 82.17m, 81.01m, and a final foul his earlier effort was enough to clinch the top podium position.
This victory marks Neeraj’s second international title within a month, following his recent gold-medal performance at the Paris Diamond League. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist and Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist has been in remarkable form and is eyeing the elusive 90-metre mark once again, having crossed it recently in training.
Despite not reaching that distance in Ostrava, Neeraj’s consistency and mental strength stood out as he overcame a shaky start to dominate the field. “I wanted a longer throw, but I’m happy with the win,” he said post-event.
The Ostrava Golden Spike title adds another prestigious win to Neeraj Chopra’s impressive 2025 season as he builds momentum ahead of upcoming global championships, reaffirming his status as one of the world’s leading javelin throwers.
