Biggest Sporting Events in Adaptive Sports

Asian Para Games

Held every four years after Asian Games, the Asian Para Games is regulated by the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) for athletes with physical disabilities. It is described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Paralympic Games. The first event was held at Guangzhou, China in 2010 and the latest one at Jakarta, Indonesia saw 43 nations participating and 2,757 competitors. China is the only country to emerge champions in all the three editions.

Sport for All, All for Sport

Studies suggest that adaptive sports have numerous benefits including less stress, more independence, higher achievement in education and employment sectors, less dependency on pain and depression medication and fewer secondary medical conditions. The choice of sport can vary depending on the physical limitations of the participants and communities can play a key role by making wheelchair-friendly modification at the local sporting venues. With this, the differently abled can learn about teamwork, cooperation, working towards objectives and handling defeats and disappointments.
