Unusual Indian Temples with Incredible Stories


Karni Mata Temple, Deshnok:

Situated 30 kilometers south of Bikaner in Rajasthan is the shrine of Karni Mata Temple. The Temple has been known as the ‘Temple of Rats’ as there 20,000 rats which dwell on the premises of this holy shrine in Deshnok. The are many stories of this temple, one of which is that Karni Mata’s stepson—Laxman went to Kapil sarovar to drink water where he drowned to death. To revive her son, Karni Mata implored Yama—the god of death, he reincarnated all of Karni Mata’s male children as rats.
