Travel Searches Surge for Ayodhya and Ujjain in 2023
Travel searches for religious destinations in India have seen a significant surge in 2023, according to a report by the online travel company MakeMyTrip. Ayodhya experienced a remarkable 585% increase in travel searches, followed by Ujjain with 359% and Badrinath with 343%, compared to 2022. Searches for destinations around religious spots have grown 97% in the last two years, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip highlighted the importance of these insights in bridging the demand and supply gaps in the travel and hospitality sector. He emphasized the need to craft policies and create experiences that align with travelers' preferences.
Additionally, the report noted a 25% increase in the number of people taking more than three trips per year in 2023 compared to 2019. Searches for emerging international destinations such as Hong Kong, Almaty, Paro, Baku, Da Nang, and Tbilisi have also seen multi-fold growth.
Family travel bookings surged by 64% in 2023 compared to 2022, while solo travel bookings grew by 23% over the same period. UPI emerged as the most preferred payment method for travel bookings, accounting for 40% of transactions, followed by credit cards. Credit cards were primarily used for high-value transactions like booking international hotels and flights.
