# Lotus Esprit S1

For an ardent James Bond fan, this car would be difficult to forget. The Esprit S1 is featured in the movie ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ where it converts to a submarine. The underwater sequence was done by custom-building a submarine with Lotus Esprit’s body on it.

This engine was a 2.0 Litre producing 160 BHP on the European trim, 140 BHP on the US trim that was mounted longitudinally behind the passengers, as its predecessor. It features a transaxle 5-speed manual gearbox unit and an inboard rear brakes. The Lotus S1 was produced from 1976 to 1979 and had a top speed of 222 kmph.

According to the Wikipedia, the Perry Oceanographic-built submarine "Wet Nellie" was sold to American business magnate Elon Musk at an auction in London. Musk plans to install a Tesla electric power train in the submarine S1 and transform it into a road-going car.
