The Compact SUV Faceoff: Vitara Brezza vs NuvoSport

Moving into the cabin the Brezza’s all black dashboard with fine touches of brushed aluminium and piano black welcome its occupants. The NuvoSport borrows its interiors from the Quanto with some facelifting, along with build quality not comparable to what the Brezza has to offer. This however doesn’t mean the Brezza fares much high in this regard and falls short in what the competition within the segment has to offer.

Where NuvoSport beats Brezza is the space offered, thanks to the former’s longer wheel base. Both cars come with front two airbags, ABS and EBD. But in terms of instrumentation and functionalities Brezza beats the NuvoSport with Apple car play, navigation, projector headlamps, cooled glove box, automatic climate control, keyless entry and button start. On the rear end the NuvoSport lacks reverse camera, offered in the Brezza, which is compensated by parking sensors.

Under the NuvoSport’s hood is the same 1.5-litre powerhouse found in TUV300 churning out 101PS and best-in-class 240Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Whereas the Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged diesel, same as the S-Cross, producing 90PS of peak power and 200Nm of maximum torque. While the NuvoSport looks powerful on paper, it is the Brezza that feels more agile due to an almost 100 kg lesser weight than its rival. The two cars are exact opposite in terms of their acceleration characteristics; Brezza has a better response at higher revs, whereas the NuvoSport at lower revs. The Brezza loses the game when we talk of drivetrains on offer as it comes only with 5-speed manual gear box where, Mahindra had thought well and provided manual as well as AMT options.

The NuvoSport suffers from the same body roll as its elder siblings, but with softer suspension offers an enjoyable ride quality for city conditions. The Brezza on the other hand with its stiffer suspension loses here, but offers better handling at higher speeds.

Both the cars are closely priced, with the top-end NuvoSport pegged at Rs 9.12 lakhs and the Brezza at 9.54 lakhs. While the Brezza claims an impressive 24.3kmpl, the NuvoSport gets an ARAI claimed 17.5kmpl.
