Lepakshi

An architectural epitome of the Vijayanagara kingdom, Lepakshi is now a forgotten village in Andhra Pradesh. Located at approximately 120km from Bengaluru, this village has temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Veerabhadra. At a height of 4.5m and measuring 8.2m in length, the granite Nandi here is one of the largest in the country. The Nandi sits, facing the Shiva Linga which is shielded by a five headed naga, which according to legends is said to have been carved out of a single rock. The best time to visit this village is during the winter.

Malappuram

Malappuram in Kerala is of historic importance as it served as a military headquarters through various eras, under various kings. The meaning of the name is hilltop and its situation at a higher altitude is what made it so important for the military. Presently, it is a quiet and peaceful place with a very pleasant climate and it is famous for its Herbal therapy and Ayurveda. It is also located roughly 40kms from the Kozhikode beach and travelers should not miss out the opportunity to visit the beach since it is only an hour’s drive.
