Seven Most Unforgettable Moments From The 88th Academy Awards

Chris Rock just joked the elephant out of the room

After six weeks of silence on the issue, Chris Rock addressed the #OscarSoWhite controversy during his monologue on Sunday night which was pretty much expected by everyone.

But people were not prepared for his in-your-face assault on racism in Hollywood. He probed it head-on, both, in his opening speech and comments and recorded segments throughout the show.

"Everyone wants to know: Is Hollywood racist? Is it burning-cross racist? No. It's a different kind of racist," Rock said Sunday."You're damn right Hollywood's racist, but not the racist that you've grown accustomed to. Hollywood is sorority racist. It's like, 'We like you, Rhonda, but you're not a Kappa.' That's how Hollywood is."But things are changing," he added, building up to a joke. "We got a black 'Rocky' this year. Some people call it 'Creed.' I call it 'Black Rocky.”

Lady Gaga brings audience to tears

During Sunday's 88th Academy Awards, Lady Gaga brought the audience to tears with an emotional performance of the haunting song "Til It Happens to You" from the 2015 documentary The Hunting Ground.

Later, a curtain parted onstage, and dozens of grim-faced young men and women stepped forward. The group—all of them; survivors of sexual assault—exposed their forearms to reveal such words and phrases as "Survivor," "You Are Love," "Unbreakable" and "Not Your Fault."

When Gaga wrapped the song, the men and women joined hands and raised them in solidarity. The Dolby Theatre audience rose for a standing ovation. Several stars, including Rachel McAdams and Kate Winslet, had tears in their eyes.
