5. Maruti Swift Dzire - India's best-selling car
Maruti Swift Dzire has successfully fetched the title of being 2013 best selling car in India. Taking over Alto's long stint at the top, it represented that Indian auto consumers now prefer for a slightly larger car even at the entry level.
The company ran out of stock in July end. However, it ruled out stopping bookings for the model.
The DZire was first launched in 2008 on the Swift hatchback platform and had registered average monthly sales of nearly 10,000 units each month. But the real spurt took place when Maruti launched the second generation of the DZire in February last year.
The DZire, offers features including integrated stereo, steering mounted audio controls, automatic climate control, power windows and dual airbags.
Riding on good sales and benefiting from low base effect of this new model, the company reported an over two-fold jump in net profit at
501.29 crore for the third quarter ended December, 2012.
The company’s net profit stood at
205.62 crore during the same period last fiscal.
