Maruti's Premium Hatchback Baleno launched at 4.99 lakh


BANGALORE: Maruti Suzuki India launched the Baleno with the starting price at 4.99 lakh for petrol version while the top-end diesel variant is at 8.11 lakh reports, ET.

The hatchback is expected to compete with Hyundai Elite i20 and VW Polo, Honda Jazz. At the forefront of its release, Maruti's NEXA dealerships had already begun getting demo units and displays.

The Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine attached to a CVT that churns out 84.3 PS of power, 115 Nm of torque, and delivers 21.4 km/l.  On the other hand, the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine produces 75 PS, 190 Nm of torque and returns 27.39 km/l. The diesel variant is exclusively accessible with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Baleno is classified into Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, with the Delta variant being obtainable with the CVT gearbox. All the variants will receive standard features that include ABS, EBD and dual front airbags. The car price of petrol variants fall between 4.99 lakh and 7.01 lakh while diesel trims reside between 6.16 lakh to 8.11 lakh. The petrol automatic variant comes with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that is priced at 6.76 lakh.

When it comes to features Baleno is the first car to come with Apple CarPlay along with other features like themulti-information speedometer and UV reduction glasses.

Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki is said to be manufacturing and exporting Baleno for around 100 global markets. For several specific export markets, the Baleno will be released with the latest Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine giving out 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque.
