Hyundai Creta Bags Indian Car of the Year Award for 2016


sdBENGALURU: Since Hyundai’s Creta launch, there has been many rumors and speculations considering whether Creta will surpass all the others in its segment! And yes it surely has. Hyundai Creta has now bagged the Indian Car of the Year 2016 (ICOTY) award, making it the third consecutive ICOTY win for Hyundai after Grand i10 and Elite i20 winning the 2014 and 2015 ICOTY awards respectively, according to business-standard.com.

The success behind Creta is the overwhelming Hyundai’s innovation and modernity in the compact SUV section that has added a new dimension to the segment thereby expanding the scope for inclusion of more features. The compact SUV from Hyundai has received around 16,271 orders globally, 400,000 enquiries, and 74,000 bookings. Also, the parameters for the selection included a number of factors such as price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, features, performance, practicality, value for money and suitability to Indian road conditions.

Though the Creta SUV was launched on 21 July, it had become an instant success for the Korean company with higher sales figures. The Creta also became the best selling SUV in the first two months of its launch. As far as the specs are concerned, there are both petrol and diesel engine options to choose from. The Creta's 1.6-litre VTVT petrol engine churns out 121bhp and 151Nm of torque. The 1.6 litre CRDI diesel engine is tuned to pump out 126bhp of power and 260Nm of torque.

The entire engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission, while the 1.6-litre CRDi is also available with six-speed automatic transmission. While comparing the fuel efficiency figures, the Hyundai Creta 1.6 petrol engine offers a fuel efficiency of 15.29 kmpl, while the 1.4 diesel and 1.6 diesel engine variants offer 21.38 kmpl and 19.67 kmpl mileage, respectively.
