Swift And Dzire To Get Suzuki's Own 1.5 Litre Diesel Engine


BANGALORE: India’s most prominent car maker Maruti Suzuki is now aiming on revamping a new avatar for two of its bestsellers Swift and Swift Dzire. The new generation bestsellers are expected to be remodeled into a whole new body along with the new engine as central. Furthermore Ertiga will also receive a mid-cycle facelift with options for new engine, reports ET.

In the financial year 2018, the premium hatchback and compact sedan codenamed YSD are expected to hit the market with an annual potential of 4.5 lakh examples.  On the other hand, the newest Ertiga also known as YHA is likely to hit the market between October 2017 and January 2018, with a possibility of having a potential of 80,000 units per annum.

In addition, the  Swift and Dzire is said to get Suzuki's own 1.5 litre diesel engine along with the present 1.3 litre diesel engine as the latest affordable mild-hybrid technology created as the Suzuki’s  SHVS - Smart Hybrid Vehicle. In the same way the compact MPV Ertiga will also receive a new 1.4 litre petrol engine (K14C) along with the 1.5 litre diesel engine.

Created in line with modular architecture which has been taken up by other global OEMS, hence they will have similar parts, thereby saving the cost of the company.

Carmakers sell an increasing number of Dzires between 17,000 to 18,000 units per month while Ditto with Swift hatchback has averages around 12,000 to 15,000 a month. While compact MPV Ertiga, has sustained an average sales of 4000 to 5000 units per month, new competition like Renault Lodgy and Honda Mobilio have been struggling lately to make the cut. 

Gaurav Vangaal, senior analyst for Forecasting at IHS Automotive said, "The development on new platforms clearly indicates that Maruti is sensitive of emerging competition in addition to changing macro environment in the country.” the extorts are expected to get a big boost as the Gujarat plant gets cracks while the margins improves. Moreover, its own diesel engines will assist the Indian subsidiary to bring down the big amounts paid for Fiat’s multijet diesel engines.
