Punto 'Abarth' Bookings Open: All The Details

BENGALURU: Volkswagen set the trend for performance hatchbacks in India with the GTs and its Italian counterpart seems to be following the same. Having said that you must now know what we are talking about. Yes! We are talking about Fiat's much-awaited powerful hatch the ‘Punto Abarth’ which is now open for bookings and expected to launch in October, 2015, reports ONCars.

As soon as Fiat reveled that it would get the ‘Abarth’ into Indian market, car enthusiasts have been patiently waiting to get a glimpse off this Italian power horse and to greet that Fiat has commenced the bookings for the car against a down payment of 20,000.

The Punto Abarth will be powered by a 1.4-litre T-JET turbocharged petrol engine that can churn out a massive 145bhp at 6,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. Although for the power output it delivers we thought it would sport a different gearbox like the one on the GTs, but sadly Fiat has stuck to a 5-speed gearbox which will see the car clock 0-100kmph in eight seconds.

In terms of specs the Punto Abarth, will get contrasting wing mirrors depending on the color of the car,  Abarth logo, 'T-Jet' badge on the bootlid, side body decals. Whereas on the inside, its gets a fabric upholstery with contrast stitching in red and yellow and sportier steel pedals. In terms of safety the car will get ABS and dual front airbags as standard. Also the hatchback gets disc brakes at the rear instead of drums along with a sporty alloy wheels featuring 195/55 R16 Apollo tyres.

Since there are not many performance hatchbacks to choose from the Punto Abarth will directly take on the Volkswagen’s GT variants at an ex-showroom price of 10 lakh. So car enthusiasts the wait looks to be over for now!
