Lenyadri Caves
Location: Junnar, Maharashtra.
A visit here will not only quench your thirst for adventure but also complete one of the Ashtavanayak Darshan, one of the forms of Lord Ganesha worship. A famous Hindu temple is located in Cave 7 which is dedicated to one of the forms of Lord Ganesha. The Ganesha form worshipped here is called ‘Girijatmaja’ meaning ‘mountain born’. It’s popular as it is supposed to be having largest number of caves made in the hill. Dating to 1st century and 3rd century AD, these hills are distinctly numbered.These lovely caves were a hub for Buddhist monks’ ages ago.
Patal Bhuvaneshwar Caves
Location: Pitoragarh, Uttarakhand.
Localites of the village called Bhabaneshwar believed to be Lord Shiva and the 33crore Hindu deities live here. The limestone cave is mother to the Hindu lord community which is 160 mt long and 90 ft deep once you enter. The spiritual cave is artificially illuminated this cave has many natural structures formed out of the stagnation of stalactite and stalagmite. The cave has four entrances called Mokshdwar, Paapdwar, Randwar and Dharamdwar.
Sonbhandar Caves
Location: Nalanda, Bihar
The historic connect to this mysterious cave is believed to be that Buddha had lived here and gave sermons to the great king of Magadha, Bimbisara. Holed out of a single huge rock, these twin caves dates to have origin in the 3rd and 4th century AD. It’s believed that one of the chambers deep down the cave still preserves Bimbisara’s treasury. Fascinating epigraphs and incarnations form incredible part of the cave wall.
