Cleaning Up

Carpenters, painters, plumbers or electricians used to conglomerate as houses used to get a mega make over right before Diwali. Kids spent hours to decide the colors of the paint or design the lights. Elders took care that every nook and corner was cleaned and decked. New curtains, furniture or gadgets came in on the day of Dhanteras.

Though buying new on Dhanteras continues, but due to academic pressure or busy life of parents hardly kids get the scope to participate in the cleaning process like before.

Festive Shopping

Shopping for Diwali was a long procedure and in fact could not be completed in a day. It involved too much of market hopping to get the best of outfit for every member in the family. Now as the trend of online shopping takes over the country, the joy and happiness in selecting clothes or personally gifting to the near ones is gradually vanishing from modern Indians.
